Xiaomi’s Patent for a Smartphone With a Removable Display

Spotted by LetsGoDigital, Xiaomi filed a patent with CNIPA(China National Intellectual Property Administration) under the name “two component phone”. The patent got recently published(today on August 4) and it is a patent for a smartphone with a removable display. When you look at the device, you can see that it has a removable display that can be taken out and connected to the device anytime you want. When the device is not connected, you can see that it has two front cameras with a LED flash. So we are assuming that it has in-display selfie cameras. And when the display is connected, it looks very much like an ordinary smartphone that we are used to seeing. At the bottom of the display, you can see connector pins that go inside the other component of the smartphone. Interestingly, the patent hints that the removable display can also be used separately without the main body and how it could be used is still unknown. The concept of modular smartphones is a weird one as it looks very cool on paper but then we have seen the whole Google ARA project fail very badly so we will have to wait and see how practical will a modular smartphone be if it comes to reality.
