1. Kahoot!
The first app in the list, Kahoots is already quite popular in the schools. It works like this, you can either create a quiz for your friends to participate in or join one creates by others. The admin displays questions with multiple choices on a common display. Your aim is to answer the questions correctly and score points. The person with the most point wins. It is as much fun as it is educational.
What I like about the app is that you don’t get any ready-made quiz with this app so you would have to manually prepare a quiz with multiple questions which would hone your skills even more. Win-win. 2. Sangaku Math Theory
Okay, Maths isn’t just one subject. It has multiple branches with its own dedicated fields. And this where this app comes in. The app has 9 different branches of maths which you can study on your phone. Everything is organized and you can just pick one part like Algebra, Calculus or Probability and read up all about the fundamentals, theorems, and formulae. Every topic in the app has a difficulty level marked which would give you a general overview of the topic. The content is curated beautifully and explained in a way that is easy to understand. The best part is that everything is offline so you can study even if you don’t have an internet connection.

3. CK-12
Following the Common Core Standards, CK-12 offers a complete curriculum for all the grades, from Kindergarten to Highschool. Speaking of Math, it’s divided into two parts, elementary maths, and Advanced Maths. Elementary Maths has all the topics covered up to Grade 5 and Advanced Math includes topics like Arithmetic, Measurement, Algebra, Geometry, Probability, Statistics, Trigonometry, Analysis, and Calculus. Every topic has separate sections and you can tap one to get started. For example, if you wish to study up on shapes in Geometry, the app would give you all the resources to study and show you an estimated time to finish the topic. After that, you can practice the by an inbuilt quiz.

Sometimes you’ll encounter a math problem which looks impossible to solve, no matter how hard you try. All you need is a fresh perspective and maybe a little help from a friend. Brainly is a community of students who come together to solve math problems and other academic questions. You can join the community with a few simple steps and begin asking answers to your problems and giving answers to other people’s problems. Brainly has an extensive knowledge base. You can search for a question on the app and you may find a thread which already has a solution. If not, you can ask a question and you would get an answer from other students. If you’re wondering about if the app is moderated then the answer is yes. All the out of context answers are pulled from the topic and only the relevant answers are shown to keep the platform optimized and organized. Install Brainly for Android and iOS 5. Socratic If you’re in a hurry and can’t wait for the answer, then Socratic can be a lifesaver. You can simply take a picture of the question using the camera on your smartphone and Socratic would use some magic (Computer Vision and Machine learning) and find the most accurate solution for the problem. And not just that, it also shows you the steps alongside. The app constantly learns from the questions presented and refines its algorithms so that you only get relevant results. For example, I wanted to find a solution for a quadratic equation 3×2+4x=2. I just have to scan the equation and the app would pull up the results from multiple sources. Not only that, it would give you detailed steps with explanations and formula used. If for some reason, it can’t solve the given problem it would give you a google result for the closest possible question. Socratic also curates videos from sources like Khan Academy, Crash Course, and many more. If you don’t already know, Khan Academy is one of the most popular resource apps for learning new subjects. Khan Academy aims at offering free education to all the students. You can use their website or the app to access all the resources. Khan Academy implements a points system determines your mastery in the subject. You get resources on Arithmetic, basic geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, etc within the app and you can bookmark important topics to study later. After watching video resources, you can take practice tests to improve your knowledge. After sufficient practice and enough points, you can take a quiz on the topic which gives you final points and takes you to mastery of the subject. Brilliant believes that learning using Lectures, and videos is difficult and offers a better solution. I think their approach using quiz is a lot more convenient as it enforces the fundamentals using this method. Brilliant has a few math categories in their catalog as well, you can learn mathematical fundamentals, Geometry, Logic, Probability, Algebra, Trigonometry, Number Theory, Statistics, Calculus, etc. Every topic follows a progressive approach and you unlock advanced topics once you finish the basic quiz first. I agree, learning by taking the quiz is indeed better as you learn while solving the problems and simultaneously strengthening the foundation of the mathematics fundamentals.

8. iTunes U
iTunes U is a resource app by Apple and it offers free education courses. It is designed to help teachers teach and students learn better. The app has a large number of resources from leading educational institutions including Stanford, MIT, Yale, etc. As a student, you can find resource material on every math topic. You can view and update assignments, ask questions to lecturers and get answers in one to one conversations. You just have to search in the search bar and subscribe to the content. It also features some premium content which may be paid but most of the content on the app is free. iTunes U is one of the best math learning apps to study the subject on your own and you can get it on iPhone and iPad from the App Store.
