While we are going to focus on video converters, for the most part, I will also share a video player app that can play any format you throw at it including the popular .mkv and .avi format. That way, you won’t have to mess with video converters at all. Let’s begin. Also Read: Best Free Video Editing Apps for Android & iPhone (No Watermark)
Best Video Converter Apps for iOS
1. Movie Player 3
Starting with the video player app for iPhones, Movie Player 3 supports a wide variety of video formats. The list is rather long but some of the popular ones include DIVX, AVI, FLV, MOV, WMV, MPG, MPEG, and MKV. There are some obscure ones too that I have never heard about.
Other features include the ability to play videos from Dropbox and other cloud storage sites, email attachment, and browser. It gives you even more control over the source of the video. No need to transfer files using iTunes. You can save videos in folders that can be password-protected for security and privacy. Price begins at $0.99 and goes based on what plugins you download and install. Download Movie Player 3: iOS
2. iConv
iConv is one of the best video converter apps for iPhones that can also convert PDFs, audio files, and even images. That’s like the Swiss army knife of converters. All of this on your smartphone. Another cool feature is batch mode where you can convert more than one video from one format to another. Supports all cloud storage sites and comes with advanced controls for bitrate and codec.
One nifty feature that’s related to the video is the ability to trim video and even audio files accordingly. The list of supported formats is again rather big but most popular ones are there. The free version of the app supports a limited number for formats and features. The pro version will cost you $2.99 per month. I know, subscription, but the number of file types and formats that it supports, the price is actually justified. Download iConv: iOS Also Read: Wondershare Video Converter Review – Is it worth it?
3. PlayerXtreme
This is not one of the video converter apps for iPhones, but instead, it is a video player that supports all popular and not so popular formats. The list of supported video formats is probably the longest here. PlayerXtreme supports so many formats that I didn’t knew half of them existed. Add to the fact that it connects with a number of devices and services like NAS, Mac, PC, Plex, and more, and you don’t have to worry about streaming on your iPhone again, ever.
There is also support for Chromecast and AirPlay. The list of features is even longer than the list of support video formats. There are video and audio controls, gesture support, language and subtitle, and password protection. The app will cost you $2.99 per month but offers more bang for the buck than Movie Player 3 that I talked about above. Alternative, you can also try VLC and Infuse app. I use the later one to transfer movies from my computer to my iPad and it works like a charm every time. Download PlayerXtreme: iOS
4. Handbrake
Another video converter app but for the computer where you can not only convert videos from one format to another but can also convert videos to audio. In other words, you can say it also comes with an audio extractor. A wide variety of video formats are supported but if you are looking for an obscure one, go through the list.
And the best part is, Handbrake is completely free, available for Windows, Linux & Mac, and open source. You can read more about Handbrake here. Download Handbrake: Mac & Windows
5. The Video Converter
The Video Converter app claims to be one of the fastest video converter apps for iPhones. They say video conversion takes less than 15 seconds. Well, I say it really depends on the size of the file, but I like their confidence. Quite a few file formats are supported and test results look good. Note that conversion is done on a cloud server which means faster conversion but less secure. And of course, you will need an Internet connection to get it to work. Although it also supports upload via URL meaning if you want to convert a video that’s already on the cloud, this app will save you time.
As such, the app doesn’t work offline. The Video Converter is free to use but comes with limited functionality. You can unlock everything with a one-time payment of $3.99 which is a pretty good deal. Download The Video Converter: iOS
Video Converter Apps for iPhones
There are very few apps available on the App Store that can convert videos from one format to another directly on the iPhone. Some of them upload the video to the cloud. Another way is to use an app on MacBook to convert the video and then transfer it to the iPhone. Finally, the last and my favorite way is to use a video player that can play a wide variety of video formats right out of the box. Makes life that much easier, no? So, which one do you recommend and why?
